My Raw Food Journey #rawfood

calories-in-strawberries

Okay, first of all this isn’t a New Year’s Resolution. It just so happens that I was so sick so often near the end of 2011 that I finally went ahead and decided to do something that I’d be planning on doing all of 2011. I don’t even like calling it a diet because I hope to incorporate this as a way of living. I love fruit so much so that it will make you scratch your head as to why I don’t eat it more often instead of putting cheese on everything from Pop-Tarts to rice and eating whole bags of candy hearts every February 14th.

I’m really excited to venture on my raw food journey. This has been years coming because my eating habits honestly aren’t the best. I love butter, sugar and bread–all things that are bad for me. I hear you have to prep for this thing so that’s what I’m doing. Making a list of what’s in season in the veggie and fruit category so I don’t get jammed up once I start.

I know some of my favorite fruits may not be in season on February 1st like strawberries and blackberries. Besides just eating fruits and veggies I’m aiming to get things grown locally not something that is picked green, force ripened with gases and has to travel miles just to get to my local market. I’m learning as I go along and promise I will be completely honest. I’ve created the category “raw food jouney” so that if you want you can follow along with what I’m eating. A Very and Much Needed Relaxing Birthday…

pink-cupcakes

I’m having a very relaxing day today. My birthday started off with hubby sending me a Pablo Neruda poem that brought me to tears. My son called me to let me know he was thinking of me. I always tell people that it’s the little things that make my day. I’m thinking that a very quiet evening would be perfect. I’m looking forward to probably seeing a movie and then coming home and enjoying mimosas and watch the X-Factor shows on the DVR (I still think that Astro should have won). As busy as I am/was this year I knew that my birthday wouldn’t be glitzy or fast paced. I’m just thankful for my husband, friends and family and all of you who have continued to support the brand. You may have already heard me talk about the FAB things we have planned next year. Keena&Emily

When I got the invitation for the So Excessive Holiday Sip and Shop last week I was overjoyed. I was happy because Keena is cool people, her accessories are off the chain and I’m a total fan of the show Love & Hip Hop and couldn’t wait to just attend and mingle. But then I got a little under the weather and couldn’t make it, but I wanted to share photos from the event that were sent over.

Before I knew I couldn’t attend I had actually planned what I was going to wear and called up my bestie and we dished on what we’d wear to the event and finalized the details to attend on December 8th. As the day approached we were ready and armed with our cutest shoes but unfortunately the party had to go on without us. It looks like a fun time was had by all. I won’t miss it the next time! I promise you.

Happy Thanksgiving Day

Happy Thanksgiving

I’m thankful for so many things that it wouldn’t benefit me waiting until November to list all the things I’m grateful for. I’ve come a long way from that painfully shy girl in the South Bronx who didn’t fit in with the status quo. I’m now happily married, enmeshed in fashion, writing for several publications, operating a relationship ministry for singles and couples, doing what I love and have a shoe collection to swoon for, an online vintage boutique and am acquiring several nice vintage pieces for my stash that are growing as well. I’m always thankful to God first and foremost. I have done nothing on my own and to think so would be vain and foolish. But there are other things I’m thankful for as well that have also been tremendous blessings to my life…

1. I am truly thankful for a husband who loves me unconditionally and supports everything I do from radio to tv to helping me make videos and logging on for the Twitter Parties! He has been there for me 100% and even though I make certain to tell him daily how much I love him, I just want to share it out loud. I love my husband Mr. C–HE’S THE BEST!

2. I am thankful for a son who is smart, college educated, respects women and understands the need to for upward mobility. He works hard at everything he does and I am thankful for the opportunity to be his Mom and model for him what a solid healthy relationship and marriage looks like, so that one day he can and will have his own. I love you “J”

3. I am a helper by nature so I know how important it is to be thankful for your supporters. I want to thank everyone who supports me, my vintage endeavors and the Princess Dominique brand. That includes my family, my shoe posse members and my category contributors, my friends both in New Jersey as well as other states and countries. It is so amazing when you can connect with people (some you have never met face to face) and have it feel like they’re your next door neighbor. I appreciate you all–never forget that!

*Now it’s time for an early morning snack!

What are you thankful for today?
