First it’s off then it’s on again, but what I have the most respect for is people who still have love for each other and can put pride aside and say that. You wouldn’t imagine how many people who break up, still love each other and let pride not allow them to be the one to call first, or say it first. Such foolishiness. I mean, be for real. You would let the best thing that ever happened to you walk out of your life because pride wanted you to be right instead? Or because pride didn’t want you to look like you needed somebody? Go Janet and Jermaine. Do what you do.

Though the status of their relationship is often a seesaw-ride of “are-they-or-aren’t-they,” Janet Jackson and Jermaine Dupri are indeed together, PEOPLE has confirmed.

The couple were rumored to be broken up around the time of Michael Jackson’s death when Dupri did not attend the funeral services. Jackson herself fueled rumors when she told Harper’s Bazaar that she was single.

“They never really broke up,” a source tells PEOPLE. “Jermaine wanted to give her some space when Michael died.”
