Mere seasons ago, I would have frowned upon the thought of donning shorts during the winter. After all, shorts are often associated with the carefree summer months. I have since then expanded my fashion realms and am not longer leery of said “summer” frock.

Shorts are “the” winter option, in my opinion. No, I have not abandoned my skirts and dresses. I’ve just become taken by the idea of shorts in cold weather. Distressed denim cutoffs offer a rugged sexy look, while a hounds tooth, cuffed short, is the dressier option and can be worn out on the town or dare I say work? Perhaps, that’s a tad bold, however, it depends on the workplace. But I digress. Simply pair them with thick tights, OTK boots, booties, flats, or even a peep/open toe platform. The key to successful execution of this look? A major component is the tights. Shorts in the winter must be accompanied by tights/leggings or the effort will be an #epicfail.  After all its’ not summer!

A solid short can be hyped up with a snazzy printed tight or the reverse. Seek and you shall find shorts offered for fall/winter in corduroy and velvet, or in typical fabrics splattered in their respective patterned glory.  I envision myself in a Cheetah print short, cozy oversized crop turtleneck, black textured tights and black leather platform OTK’s, topped with a leather vest/jacket. Matter of fact, I’ll throw on a beret or headdress of some sort, just for good measure.
For some leg coverage, thrown on a knee length belted trench. Other great short toppers are of course the coveted Boyfriend blazer (which I prefer to fall below my shorts) and my other love the faux fur vest/jacket.

See where I’m going with this? There is a method to my reinterpreted madness. I did not come to short of it all on my own accord. Inspiration was derived from some of my favorite fashion bloggers including Karla’s Closet, What is Reality Anyway, the Haute Pursuit, and My Delusional Mind to name a few. Surely, some may dub me delusional, which I am to an extent, but I would add that I am bold and fashionably uninhibited. Yea, yea, yea it’ll be cold, but I will face off with a blizzard for a fashion statement I stand behind. My motto is from the car to the building. You only have to brave the cold for but a moment.

So the word is out.  You’ve been briefed!  Shorts can be worn year round. They have received the stamp of approval from the flawlessly fabulous fashionista.
