About Gambling

I stumbled across this. I don’t gamble and although I’ve tried hard to figure out why people do it, I still don’t get it. Okay. Let me start over. I have gambled in some form or fashion throughout my life. Heck, getting on the New York City subway everyday for 20 some odd years is a gamble, but I digress. When I visited Which Poker I was overwhelmed. I was first of all like I said, not a gambler and secondly if I was, it would have to be the kind of gambling where no money is involved. I hear all the time about people going to glitzy high end websites like Which Poker and spending hours online trying to win money, coming close to winning money and I think to myself, surely that’s how they get you. Then I took a closer look and it was a relatively easy to understand site.
Of course I’ve gotten those emails and you have too where they say, come and play online poker. And if I’m in a cute mood, I’d probably say something like, strip poker? But I’d only be playing of course. A friend of mine told me last week that one of his co-workers hit the number for $30k. If you’re in a financial crunch it might make you think that luck will come and sit with you like that and send you running straight for the site. But again you’d have to be someone who would want to risk it. I’m not.
But then the downside. I mean, part of me realizes that if I don’t gambled I am guaranteed to still have my money. If I gamble it, there is a chance that I “could” win, but it’s not a guarantee. So, I always remember when temptation strikes, yes its good to see someone standing on tv with a winning lottery ticket or grinning next to the words in their testimonials on websites like theirs, but at what risk? The rent? Baby food, diapers, lights, cable or gas for the car. No thank you, seriously, NO THANK YOU.
They say you’ve gotta be in it to win it but, uh, I don’t care what anybody’s saying. I’ll take my chances by earning it the hard way–one book sale at a time. But then if I hit, yeah I could buy tons of shoes…ah, but how likely is that?
