About Gambling

I stumbled across this. I don’t gamble and although I’ve tried hard to figure out why people do it, I still don’t get it. Okay. Let me start over. I have gambled in some form or fashion throughout my life. Heck, getting on the New York City subway everyday for 20 some odd years is a gamble, but I digress. When I visited Which Poker I was overwhelmed. I was first of all like I said, not a gambler and secondly if I was, it would have to be the kind of gambling where no money is involved. I hear all the time about people going to glitzy high end websites like Which Poker and spending hours online trying to win money, coming close to winning money and I think to myself, surely that’s how they get you. Then I took a closer look and it was a relatively easy to understand site.

Of course I’ve gotten those emails and you have too where they say, come and play online poker. And if I’m in a cute mood, I’d probably say something like, strip poker? But I’d only be playing of course. A friend of mine told me last week that one of his co-workers hit the number for $30k. If you’re in a financial crunch it might make you think that luck will come and sit with you like that and send you running straight for the site. But again you’d have to be someone who would want to risk it. I’m not.

But then the downside. I mean, part of me realizes that if I don’t gambled I am guaranteed to still have my money. If I gamble it, there is a chance that I “could” win, but it’s not a guarantee. So, I always remember when temptation strikes, yes its good to see someone standing on tv with a winning lottery ticket or grinning next to the words in their testimonials on websites like theirs, but at what risk? The rent? Baby food, diapers, lights, cable or gas for the car. No thank you, seriously, NO THANK YOU.

They say you’ve gotta be in it to win it but, uh, I don’t care what anybody’s saying. I’ll take my chances by earning it the hard way–one book sale at a time. But then if I hit, yeah I could buy tons of shoes…ah, but how likely is that?

Bills Will Haunt You

Pay Your Bills On Time

I was browsing my list of bloggers and happened over to someone’s cyber crib and left a comment that went something like this, “bills are NO JOKE, they do no go away and they don’t play dead either.” And I started thinking, its true. They don’t. They don’t disappear just because you saw a fabulous pair of shoes on sale with an additional 30% off. They don’t turn invisible just because you’d like to eat out tonight at Macaroni Grill mostly because you just don’t feel like cooking and you were so swamped at work that you skipped lunch. Bills could care less how good you’d look in a pair of Se7en jeans and Gucci shades, and bills surely couldn’t give a flying ham sandwich about how overworked you are and how desperately you “say” need a vacation. Bill do what they do, they come to paper your life with reminders that you must work, you must bust your hump and you must obey the “due date” on the bill or else they’ll gladly tack on late fees that they make up just because they can. Now add Christmas shopping, a new Easter outfit and a Mother’s Day and Father’s Day token to that and see how you like them apples.

We all have our weaknesses. I’m pleased that I’m managing money better these days though, but then that’s probably because I have the final and only say on how it’s spent. We will all die owing something or someone, but the less we owe, the more we can truly enjoy life.

BlogsVertise

I was reading an article today and there was a woman who wrote an article talking about BlogsVertise. I’m thinking BlogsVertise? It’s supposed to be some new trendy thing to do on the net. I’m thinking, yeah, something else I need to do with assignments and deadlines. My plate is already too full so I don’t know. I want to try it but then again they say blogs are a thing of the past. Good thing I use mine to vent! Ha! So, anyway ANTM comes on tonight. I’m patiently waiting for the new episodes of Veronica Mars to kick in. I guess they’re waiting for Pussycat Dolls to finish up next week. I think Asia is a shoe in. She has an exotic look and will make a nice mix to the cast. Hmmm, what else? The Bad Girls Club. If you didn’t watch it, please note this is a spoiler: Jodie left. I think they only have 1 week left in the house or something anyway. I never got that show. They didn’t even have a team assignment like they do on The Real World. Now anybody with a camera and a 3 bedroom apartment could film a reality show. I guess that leaves me out. I live in a breadbox. *lol* Seriously. All right, I’m out. And when all else fails BlogsVertise.
