Top 5 Movies That Move Me Meme

The Astronaut Farmer - I really didn’t think a movie with this title would be any good. I’m not a sci-fi person and don’t really like space movies but it wasn’t about that, it was about perseverance and determination and so many more other things that made the move remarkable. That’s what I loved about it. Billy Bob Thornton was excellent. I almost didn’t want to delete it from my DVR, but it’s definitely on our list to buy. BUY IT!

No Reservations - For some reason I’m not a Katerine Zeta Jones fan, maybe I’m that way with over-hyped people and things so I went into this movie not expecting much and this movie too shocked me by being unexpectedly good. I just found out they ordered this movie from Netflix for the residents at the assisted living facility and I told them that I highly recommend it. This movie too is about overcoming and I think we need more movie about that and less about all of the other trash that’s out there. BUY IT!

A Good Year - I was intrigued by the premise of this movie and I enjoy Russell Crowe. He has great versatility, so, I gravitated towards this movie. I thought a vineyard, the beauty of France–I’m sold. The ending had me in tears and I knew I had to add it to my collection. BUY IT!

Clover - This movie was based on a book by Dori Sanders and although I saw the movie and enjoyed it, I can’t find it on DVD. I’m sad about that because I know if they showed it that it must be available. The story of a little black girl who loses her father and is raised by her father’s recent bride, who happens to be a white woman is a movie with life lessons in it for all of us. So while there is no “buy it” link, you can bet that as soon as I find out, I’ll add it here.

Georgia Rule - This was a movie that I thought I would hate. Lindsay Lohan starred in it with Jane Fonda and Felicity Huffman. Without giving too much of the plot away, you never really know why people act the way that they act. I mean, based on all the TMZ and tabloid stuff I prejudged Lindsay and I hated her from the moment she came on the screen, but then I hated her character too because she played her so well. I don’t think I cried at this movie but I wanted too, so that was good enough for me to add it to my wish list and for my husband to say, it was a good movie. BUY IT!

7 People/Things That Inspired My Style

Princess Dominique On Fashion

Only kidding. Don’t cast your vote. I just thought of a very fun meme that I could do. I was reading the extra THICK issues of the September magazines like I’ve been doing since I was 8 or 9 and they were stuffed with fun and fashionable stuff and I starting thinking, who or what inspired my individual style and so here it goes. Feel free to do it too:

1. First I’d have to say that being a child of the 70s inspired my style, the dashikis, afros, platform shoes, bellbottoms, tube tops, hot pants and all the retro stuff that’s making a comeback was edgy even before we knew what was edgy, so I have to credit that with giving me a peek at fashion back then–when we though dressing that way was just the norm.

2. Calvin Klein inspired me in the 80s. I loved his jeans, the way they fit and was especially hooked on his tightie whitie undies too. They were signature in my style as a teen and young adult and I’ve grown fond of the clean lines in his contemporary collections too.

3. My mom always told me that less was more and so I credit her with not only the pairing of my baby tees with my blue jeans, but my really really high heels. When my mom went to work when I was a kid, she wore heels EVERY DAY. There wasn’t a day that she didn’t leave out of the house in a pair of heels. I always admired that. Granted they make heels now that don’t crush and squeeze your toes now, but if it wasn’t for my mom I wouldn’t know how to dress up a bland outfit with a pair of fabulous heels. She still can’t believe that I wear heels all the time now.

4. Indie designers catch my eye. For some reason I like to stand out and not be a carbon copy of everything that’s being worn by celebrities. Don’t get me wrong, I do like “some” celeb stuff, but I don’t want to be a Xerox copy, so, for that, an underrated designer that isn’t getting much play works fine for me because they have nothing to prove and they’re not following trends or trying to duplicate something that’s already out there, their motivation is fresh, new and lively.

Note: Indie designers contact me and send me stuff, I will shout you out! *grin*

5. I would not even have my signature style if I wasn’t wearing Gucci. If I have on shades, guess what? They’re Gucci. They are the only frames I wear. I love their shoes too, but every time I save up enough to snag a pair the size 8 is ALWAYS gone. Poor me. I need to start that shoe fund again.  Gucci rocks though. It always adds a little Hollywood splash to my wardrobe–naw mean?

6. Anyone who knows me knows I wear diamonds. They are a part of my signature style. I don’t do any other kind of jewelry even though I may see things made out of turquoise and other stones that I absolutely adore, it takes a whoooooooooooooole lot for me to take off my diamond studs and diamond necklaces. I have my eyes on some cute diamond encrusted hoop earrings, a lovely diamond ring, a pave diamond necklace and maybe a slider chain with several diamond pieces one it that will spell out something. I love diamond–not big gawdy pieces, just tasteful pieces that are quality enough that they sparkle and you can notice a little twinkle from across the room. Diamonds to me are just vintage and I’m a vintage kind of girl.

7. Kerry Washington is my girl. She’s flawless. I don’t think that I’ve ever seen her in a dress that I wouldn’t wear. If you don’t believe me, test me and find out. Find a link to a photo of her and past the link in the comments section and I’ll tell you if I’ll wear the dress in the photo or not. *lol* This is going to be tres fun.

What’s Not Important to Me in This Season

1. Celebrity gossip. Probably won’t be posting much of that on my own unless I have something I’m unable to hold my tongue about or unless it’s a paid sponsored post. My blog has “thankfully” been getting a lot of that lately.

2. What people think or say about me–can’t imagine a time when it really ever was.

3. Bestseller lists. I can’t live my entire writing career doing backflips trying to get on one. If it happens it happens. I consider my writing an unmined treasure.

4. Being ePopular. If people visit they visit. I’m not about to do backflips to get traffic either. I’m blogging for me. ePopularity fades.

5. The effort it would take to think of something for #5.

Five Things You Want to Change About Your Relationship Meme

Posted Under: memes, relationships

Here’s a fun meme, especially since bettering our relationships is on the resolution roster for the New Year. I’ve launched this meme to support my relationship book The Plural Thing: Spiritually Preparing for Your Soul Mate. Whether you want to dump your current, rehire your ex, the key is, just be honest and include the “meme challenge” instructions intact in your post should you choose to do it. Here are mine 5 things:

1. Get married. Yes, I’m actually late with the announcement, but we tied the knot on January 3, 2008!

2. Go on a vacation. We have wonderful day outings that I enjoy immensely but I’d love a wonderful beach house getaway for at least a month where we lounge around in the hammock and do nada. Okay, I’m pushing it, maybe 2 weeks.

3. Get fit. I want us to get fit together. We’ve cut down and he’s promised not to bake as much especially since a whole cake only lasts the two of us 3 days max.

4. More poetry. I write love poems and nothing else really. He started writing me poems too, but when life gets busy it’s hard for me/us to hear the words and think “poetry” so my goal is for things to slow down so we can begin writing to and for each other again so that we can start reading to each other in bed again.

5. Keep the newlywed feeling. I know that people “say” that the after awhile it will begin to feel like the honeymoon is over, but we are setting out to defy odds, not become a statistic and keep this feeling that is deeper than either of us has ever felt. We are looking forward to our 50th wedding anniversary.

The meme challenge is: Those tagged will share Five Things You Want to Change About Your Relationship Meme and tag five people.
