Friends or Acquaintances

I know it’s weird, but I’ve gotten to the point where I’m not letting anything or anybody mess up the happy life I have. If I’m paying for a service and not getting it, then I’ll stop paying. If I’m helping someone who doesn’t appreciate it, then I’ll stop helping. It’s amazing how freeing that can be. I want to revisit a thought. What is a friend. Many people have different ideas about what a friend is, but they differ from my idea and if you’re supposed to be “my” friend shouldn’t the “our” idea of friendship be the same? I’m just asking because some people view friendship as–I’ll call you once a year and come and visit only if it’s a special occasion, but that’s not my idea. That’s my idea of an acquaintance and that’s the problem, too many people are calling each other friends when they’re really acquaintances. Imagine that.

True. And I feel you about not letting anyone mess up your happiness. People have their position in your life. There are some acquaintances who will never be friends…..and shouldn’t be.

    Have a great holiday!

Good question. Unfortunately I don’t have the answer.

My bestfriend for 16 years OMG! I have been there for her so many times for her to just do the thing that she wanted to do in the firstplace. This is how I handle her, Either you are going to do one of two things stay in the same mess or leave the mess and start over. that does the trick for me.

Hmmm, what’s ‘weird” about it? Being at that place or just getting to that place? I do think we’re too quick to call people “friend” when what we really mean is we’re “friendly” towards them. I’m with you on letting go of what isn’t working for me or helping me to move forward/become better. In the last month, I’ve told 3 different “friends” the same thing re: them saying “I” don’t come visit: “Funny how there’s the exact same amount of distance/travel time between your house & mine as there is from my house to yours.” Ha!
