Princess Dominique Dishes What Black Women Like
March 14, 2008 – 8:39 amPosted Under: food, hair, restaurants, travel
Some of you may have gone here after my Mos Def is Cool to White People and then Babygirl hipped me to Cobb’s spot where he countered the white boy by talking about “What Black People Like” and I had to take it a bit further. You know me. Here my list:
What Black Women Like
*Note my references are for upwardly mobile black women since that’s all I associate with
#1. Good Food
Black women love good food because good food is like an orgasm. We throw down in the kitchen and every now and then we deserve to enjoy a tantalizing restaurant meal. We’re not talking about that popular spot everybody is raving about that puts the line around the block or put reservations on a 6 month long waiting list. We are quite eclectic and like to discover our own hot spots and feel the need to even enjoy it a few times before we start spreading the word about it to friends and family and then we buzz off to discover another spot. We should actually get a check cut on a monthly basis since most black women are who actually makes restaurants popular nowadays.
#2 Outstanding Customer Service
Black women like outstanding customer service. It’s bad enough that everything is overpriced because of a shaky economy but if we’re going to pay our hard-earned cash for anything we like the customer service to be “on point” meaning, if a supermarket or department store is crowded–OPEN ADDITIONAL REGISTERS! If we’re in a restaurant, don’t wait until our glass of Diet Coke is on “e” just mill around and present yourself occasionally to remove dishes, produce more napkins and offer refills. We’d also like restaurant service staff to realize that no outstanding customer service equals “no tip”.
#3 Island Hopping
Black women love island hopping and traveling period. We work ourselves to the bone just to be deemed as half equal, so, when we get the opportunity to sit back and dig our toes in the sand and have a cabana boy keep the frozen drinks coming we relish it like it should be deemed an international holiday. Just a thought, if you work hard and have never been, start saving now.
#4 Pedicures
Black women like pedicures. All right, we LOVE them. We enjoy having our feet perfected because we believe in the importance of UPKEEP. In my humble shoe opinion, it makes no sense to wear the most fabulous shoes and then not keep up the tootsies that go in them. Things to remember: Pedicures aren’t only for summer. Pedicures aren’t just for other people to gawk at, they are for you too. You should smile when you step from the shower and look down at your toes–not cringe.
#5 Hair
Black women love hair. Even if it’s not theirs they love it. We love to look like we are well put together. If we wear a wig, it has to look good. If we wear a weave we endeavor to make it look its best and not just throw something on our head and say “voila!”. More upwardly mobile women are opting to go ALL NATURAL and I am one of those. No more straight, past my shoulder processing for me. Many women are learning to embrace what their hair was naturally meant to be and are hugging their kinks. I can hardly keep my hands out of mine! But whether natural, wigged, permed or weaved–we’ve got it covered. We want to look good and that’s a fact Jack!

Oh my goodness — you just described me to a T! Love to eat, love to travel (especially the islands — 8 trips in 5 years), year-round pedicures, won’t pay for bad service, and rocking the natural hair… Girl, get out of my head!
Great blog, too. Just found it today from a link on BlackandMarriedwithKids.com
