Justice for the Jena 6
August 22, 2007 – 2:51 pmPosted Under: society

A stump is all that remains of the tree that was located in the inner compound of Jena High School as work crews demolish the main building, which was extensively damaged in an arson fire last fall. The tree was the one where nooses had been hung by students.
A major injustice is unfolding in Jena, LA as six black young men are railroaded in a case that reads like one straight from the era of Jim Crow. The lives of six young black men are being ruined by Jim Crow justice in Jena, Louisiana. The District Attorney has refused to protect the rights of Jena’s Black population and has turned the police and courts into instruments of intimidation and oppression. We can help turn things around by making it a political liability for the authorities of Jena to continue the racist status quo, and by forcing the Governor of Louisiana to intervene.
Update: Mychal Bell, the first of the Jena Six to face trial, was found guilty of aggravated second-degree battery and conspiracy to commit the same on June 28th. A comprehensive look at the case, the trial and the verdict was published on July 2nd at friendsofjustice. Plus, Democracy Now did a full story. There are no words to express how I feel about this whole situation. It’s 2007 and we’re still going through this.

How sad is this story? And for it not to make national news is absolutely crazy. My heart hurts every time I hear/read about this.

First of all I want to commend you for this posting. This posting is needed! We need to get the word out in every way we can! As for the story, I still cannot believe this is happening in this day and age. I understand stuff happens everyday, but to this extent and to be able to get away with what they are doing in Jena is absolutely amazing. Those six young people will be in my prayers because I do believe in Prayer and if I could I would be there to support them through every step of this ordeal. No Justice, No Peace!

so sad. this story needs more attention. mainstream media is so outraged over everything but the stories that really matter. I’m so sick of those controlling the strings in the media ignoring stories on african americans.
This story needs to be given more attention……
