love jones the movie with nia long and larenz tate

I submitted a poem to my writers group on Wednesday and the response it got from one member is that it reminded them of the refrigerator scene with Wesley and Sanaa in Disappearing Acts and I thought, yeah, it does. *grin* Then it got me thinking, what are some of my favorite movie scenes? Here are the top 5! (I love top 5).

1. The scene between Blair and Jada in the bed with the oil and gold chain in Set it Off (classic passion)
2. The scene between Richard Gere and Debra Winger in Officer and a Gentleman at the end when he carries her out of the factory and she puts on his hat (purely heartwarming do good)
3. The scene from The Notebook where Gosling and McAdams get rained on and come in off the boat and he says, “It wasn’t over. It still isn’t over” and grabs her in his arms and kisses her feverishly. (now that’s a man who is intent on loving a woman forEVA!)
4. The scene from Love Jones when Nia and Larenz are kissing in the rain at the end after deciding despite the distance to make it work (aint nothing sexier than a man making his “did wrong” right)
5. The scene from Brown Sugar where Sanaa and Taye return from catching his wife out with another man and he’s at her place, they get to talking and he propositions her up against the bookcase (from friends to lovers baby–make it happen)

What are yours?

Right now I can only think of one and that’s Dirty Dancing. Baby and Johnny are in his cabin and he’s telling her how strong she is and she says she is afraid of everything but mostly she is afraid of leaving that room and never feeing again the way she feels when she is with him, then she says, dance with me and they dance the sexiest dance EVAH!!! Love that movie to bits and pieces!

The part in the movie Wimbledon…when Paul Betany is zipping back up his pants after his brother walked in on him making out with Kristen Dunst i find it so sexy for some reason i always rewind that part in the movie.
And the part in Bridget Jones Diary when Hugh Grant is making fun of the granny panties Renee Zellweger is wearing just before they start making out it seem so like something that could happen in real life……..
And the part in Under The Tuscan Sun when the lawyer guy tells Diane Lane ..’if you don’t stop crying i will have to make love to you and i have never cheated on my wife…….’ i just love that…
I could go on and on but Love Jones is my #1 movie of all time i have the cd and dvd.

I don’t remember the fridge scene, but I’m really feelin’ your list.

@ West for not remembering the fridge scene … What????? Absolutely THE BEST part of the movie. Anyway …

    1. The Color Purple - when Sophia confronts Mister and says “No sir, I ain’t fittin to live in no streets. I’m livin with my sister and her husband and they say I can live with them for the rest of my life if I want to ….” great rant.

    2. The Wiz - when the scarecrow realizes that he doesn’t have to stay up on the pole. “You mean the only difference between hanging up there and living it up down here were … those crows?” great moment of clarity.

    3. The Hours - When Virginia is trying to explain to her husband that she would prefer to be crazy in London than sane in Richmond. “I’m dying in this town! You cannot find peace by avoiding life.” great words of wisdom from a crazy person

    4. Under the Tuscan Sun - When Frances decides to buy a house, sight unseen in Italy after her devastating divorce. “I can’t go back there.” great leap of faith.

    5. The Best Man - When the guys are playing spades in the hotel and Quentin plants the seed of doubt into Lance’s head about the woman he’s about to marry. “Well, if she did decide to get her little swerve on wouldn’t she be well within her rights? It’s karma baby!” great way to make your friend face some really hard realities.

I wrote up a decent list and it got chewed up… (DRATS - still trying to get used to this doggone laptop), then I reread your post and I tried to come up with romantic scenes… But you only mentioned ‘favorite MOVIE scenes’.. so, in that case it would be:

    (1) The Exorcist: Father Karris and Father Merrin step into the room to confront Regan for the first time together since her possession… -it’s like the forces of good and evil gather their resources and prepare for battle

    (2) The Passion of the Christ - As Jesus succumbs to his wounds on the cross, a teardrop from heaven falls and splits the earth with a thunderous crack. Its symbolic of God crying in that scene. One of several powerful ones in the movie, but that one stood out the most.

    (3) Independence Day - Its sad to say, in the shadow of the 9/11 attacks, I will say the scene of the White House being obliterated wasn’t as powerful as it was sp/fx impressive.

    (4) Game of Death - The kick to the chops from the much smaller Bruce Lee at Karreem Adbul Jabbar who stood at 7′0 was one of the most impressive fight moves in any fight sequence in movie history.

    (5) The Poseidon Adventure - The cruise ship turns upside down and bodies begin flying all around, but its the ones that survive that scene that get props from me. Especially the teenage honey suspended in the air by a fixed in place dinner table. That scene was impressive in the way that there was no CGI incorporated in it, like it’s 2006 remake or the Titanic.

Honorable Mention: Reservoir Dogs - the scene shortly after the guys leave the restaurant after breakfast when the song ‘Little Green Bag’ by George Baker Selection is playing and they are walking in semi-slow motion is so on point. Even though Tarantino owe’s a nod to the Wild Bunch for that scene, he still worked it well! Plus, its the calm before the storm… things got crazy after that one scene.

Accck! West doesn’t remember the refrigerator scene? *thud*
I’m feeling your list. I’d add the scene from “Jason’s Lyric” where they were at the creek & that brother washed her feet. *sigh* I

My favorite scene in a movie comes from The Color Purple when Mister makes Nettie leave his home. A young Celie is hugging her sister as Mister pulls Nettie from her arms and Celie says, “Write……” And Nettie replies, “Nothing but death can keep me from it!” Very powerful scene.

    (1) Color Purple has soooo many good scenes… but I love when Celie scrolling up to see if I spelled it right says “Until you do right by me everything you try is going to fail” with the voodoo vulcan mindwarp stare… classic.

    (2) School Daze when they were doing Gammites were doing the roll call “Greeting Big Brother X -Raaaaayyyyy vision” Honorable Mention: when the Fellaz @ the step show “Daddy Long stroke”.

grrr…at my brain slowing to a crawl

(3)Waiting to Exhale Pick a scene any scene

I just saw School Daze this weekend so my judgement is clouded….

    (4) Noah’s Arc on DVD (that’s something like a movie… kinda)

    Ok I can’t do it.

OOOOOOHHHH (5) Imitation of Life When the girl runs after her mother’s coffin. Screaming “she’s my mother! let me through!….*wimper* I did love you mama. just a side note. If you haven’t seen this movie (from the 1950s….get it rent it….that’s a must), Mahalia Jackson’s solo makes it worth it.
    Smooches!

I might have to break this down into sections….I’m a movie buff, so I have like a top ten list, but seeing that I don’t want to dee-bo your whole set allow me to break it down to at least 5. This is in no particular order so bear with me.

    5. Heat- 4 guys vs. the LAPD, honestly it really doesn’t get no better than that, considering the time the movie came out. We might’ve had no riots if those fools were black.

    4. Love Jones- The conversation in the cab between Nia and ol girl from Jason’s Lyric(where is she?) the look on her face right before the line….”you fucked him didn’t you?” classic. Honerable mention? Same movie, scene where they got back together and she made him sleep on the couch….only to come up and slow dance because they wanted to respect each others boundaries yet weak from their physical attraction to one another. That’s love for you.

    3. Boomerang- Eddie came home to a half awake halle berry and the morning after was something all men should watch in slow mo. The slap heard across the world was sending a message to all of us. It’s those who got past the person doing it that can see what was being presented.

    4. Set It Off- Don’t know the song, but when Latifah took the car by herself and ended the car chase scene by going out like a true gangsta, once again against the LAPD. Still brings tears to my eyes and that’s even on regular tv.

    5. Sugar Hill- Some might not agree, but dammit it’s my list. When Romello’s girl was mad at him and she ended up going with the boxer that tried to rape her. She ended up back with Romello and the scene that came after when she came to his apartment and apoligized, just letting some know that the “spiteful fuck” doesn’t always work. True love conquers all, no matter what you do.

oh there’s more, but hey you only have 5.

    my top five:

one of the first scenes in soul food in the bathroom…baby girl put it on him. she made me proud to be a woman.
the scene with wesley snipes and angela bassett in waiting to exhale…intimacy isn’t always about sex.
taye diggs and angela bassett in stella got her groove back…any man that can bring you to tears…wow.
for some reason i keep seeing the scene in belly with taral hicks and dmx….i know it’s a very harsh scene but i just like the cinematography.
sanaa lathan and omar epps in love and basketball…sometimes young love is the best.

Those…another scene in Love Jones is when they both are attracted to each other and Nia Long’s character is hugging the pillow even though she wanted to be with him.
    2. Love & Basketball scene …at the end when Sanaan’s character challenges Omar’s to a game of love & basketball.
    3. Two Can Play that Game - When Vivica goes up to MOrris in that last scene
    4. The Brothers - When the Mama is schooling the women on how to tell if a man truly loves you
    5. The Best Man - When Shelby and Terrence Howard’s character end up in bed together at the end…priceless
