This is former America’s Next Top Model candidate Toccara posing in the March/April, 2006 issue of King Magazine. (Source and Photo Scan Credit: Concreteloop.com). I don’t know how I feel about this. Re-touched photos? Probably. Beauty and poise seemingly being wasted on the glossy pages of King Magazine? Yes. Maybe I shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, but I do know that I was rooting for her from the beginning when she was on the show because she’s simply gorgeous–I mean, look at that face. But when I think Toccara I think elegant, refined and sassy with the ability to wear anything and sell everything, however, the last thing I envision when I hear Toccara is butt up in a bubble bath posing for King. I mean, yes she’s reppin’ it for the “thick” chicks, but what’s this insane fetish with King and Maxim like when they want to take our photos in it we feel we’ve made it? I heard Countess Vaughn say the same thing on Celebrity Fit Club. “I just want to pose for blank magazine so that people will finally see me as beautiful.” *backslap* Lesson number one, it starts in the mirror sweeties and you can’t gauge your worth by how much drool lands on the page of these *ahem* magazines (see, I’m trying to be nice this year). Next topic, please.

When Countess said that I was crushed! I definately saw that deep issues were brewing…..I hope she gets help.
Tocarra…..hmmm - it’s almost like all black actresses are adding a photo spread with King to their resumes so everyone else is following suit.
I love artistic spreads but just t&a and get get me spreads…I just can’t do.

I’m surprised by both Toccara’s posing & Countess wanting to. But…you never know what issues are lurking in the minds of other folks. I too see Toccara as sassy elegance, too bad you can’t see all that through the bubbles.

Toccara is a personal favorite of mine for obvious reasons, but I can understand your disappointment at how she posed in King magazine.

I agree it does start in the mirror, but it is hard to get that through to someone that has had issues with the way that they look. The need and want validation and the way that they get this is by having acceptance from others. I’m not saying its right, but that’s just how it is for some people.

Ladies…I think that you are blowing this way out of proportion. Toccara my be “reppin’” the thick chicks, but she has the goal of being a model. She will always be a BBW. However, not all BBW have the opportunity to show the world that the models (with the ribs showing) that you see in *said* lingerie catalogue are the real image of beauty or sexiness. (Digital imaging put aside.) Toccara is real. That’s why women across the country rooted for her and that’s why I think that is the sexiest thing I’ve ever seen in King Mag. But, Back to the point of this is her career. She has to show her versatility in that industry. Do you think Tyra would have her own show if she wore sweaters and jeans all the time? I don’t think it will compromise her image or intregrity…Unless she appears in somebody’s rap video shaking it!

Modeling is fine. For “me” King isn’t. I’m guessing that’s why I’m Dominique and she’s Toccara. I think build your brand first–you still don’t need King to validate you or boost your career.
